OBEAST - Da Weight is Over
It's finally here: the non-dance mix is finished a day ahead of schedule and underbudget.
The mix itself is lazy, and the tracks aren't super underground or super new, but they are all good. They reflect a certain unclassifiable aesthetic in electronic music. Like a tolerable beat for when you're thinking about other things, like equations or sex.
My favourite part is when Vast Aire raps about being fat. Also, apologies to Guillamino for mangling his track (sometimes, when things really don't mix, you have to giv'er and forget about it).

oh boy, i see mylo and all i think is drop the pressure.... i'm sorry. Couldn't you just put it up for fun?!
No. Strictly non-dance. If I see you dancing I'll turn it off.
i must be honest.
I don't get your longing for tracks that are underground and/or new.
It's strange. Like, you want people to recognize that?
Just calling you out.
There is an educational aspect to making mixes like this. New and unknown means greater chance to learn. In this case I'm uniting vaguely new and fairly unknown tracks with ones that people know and love (e.g. the BOC song, the Four Tet song, the Manitoba song, et cetera).
I understand that.
There is a difference between presenting new and unknown music and seeing it as such and labeling this new and unknown music as "underground".
The connotations that surround that term are less than inspiring (for myself). I have found underground and like scenes to be just as bad as record stores in their generalizations. Electronic or otherwise. I have experienced (especially in the "hardcore" scene a few years back) that there are certain requirements that a sound must have before it can be considered underground. Finally, once this bubble of cool floats to the surface and trickles into the main stream it is abandoned, spat out for something even deeper or less unknown.
I don't mean to rant but this topic has been bugging me for a while. I know you are true to your music. But underground scenes whisper to me of people who are less true to their music and more to their underground status and credibility... or image.
i totally agree with all of you
Shit 519?
That must be way harder then the 5.12's I climb , can't imagine. Your mix, isn't very well mixy, I like the 10 second pause/silence in the middle. Altogether some good songs in there, I like it better then dancy stuff. Minus the non robo content.
As for underground-ness. All shit is good as long as it is good, real music, and isn't Gwen Stefani or possibly other swizz like Jessica Simpson.
Word to you mother.
That is inappropriate use of 'swizz'. These aren't really songs you should mix, but how else do you get 25 to fit on a CD? Plus I cut out the shitty parts.
ok seriously, i have had enough of the hating on gwen! You guys are just too stubborn to realize she has hella talent!
Okay, you read my blog and don't download the songs. What the fuck is wrong with you?
hahah. I started a 500 club.
A three digit blogger club at least.
Stan,
I can't download this until i get rid of some stuff. Sorry i have not commented on it yet :!
yes, yes. I need a new computer.
First my rent, then the world!

If you're gonna use my artist's likeness and his album name the very least you could do is give the website (www.mystoryentertainment.com)some shine.
Holla at ya' boy.
Really good mix. Especially like the smooth transitions in the beginning. I have never really heard you match beats before. Sounded good except for the hip hop breakdown. Skipped that shit. Did not seem altogether appropriate given the established mood. Yes, i will listen to this again. As soon as i figure out how to work my ipod i will put it on.
I don't agree with this being a non-dance mix. I very much do dance to this music. A lot actually. Most of these tracks played loud with lots of bass are extremely danceable... That is if i have my cute girlfriend near by.
Hey, the post title links to the website. I should've made that clear in the post.
